Google Calendar is excellent at what it does. But tracking a family's school life requires more than a calendar. Here's what parents gain by moving to a purpose-built tool.
Google Calendar is free, works on every device, syncs automatically, and most parents already use it for their own schedules. It's the obvious starting point for tracking kids' activities — and it works fine when you have one child and a manageable number of events.
The problems start when you have multiple children (which events belong to which kid?), when you start tracking school commitments and homework alongside calendar events, or when you want a permanent record of teacher conference notes. Google Calendar is a calendar; it doesn't do those things.

It doesn't know which kid each event belongs to
